[continua] with flowered brocade patterns still partly visible, her left hand is streched across her body to hold the cloack on the opposite side, her right arm (the hand missing) raised and perhaps formerly holding a sword, the whole, especially the face, with extensive traces of original gesso and pigment, the back hollowed, 60 1/2 in., Central Italy, end of the 13th Century.
Compare a figure of the Virgin from the Deposition Group at Norcia, illustrated in the Catalogue of the 1957 Milan Exhibition, "Sculture Lignee Medioevali", pls. 42 e 43.
